Policing, Protest, and the Criminal Justice System post-Marikana (11:00 to 12: 45; Thursday 24 July 2014)
This panel looks at the experiences of poor and marginalised people in South Africa in their engagements with the police and the criminal justice system. It will provide a space to discuss police responses to protests/strikes (including repression of activists through the criminal justice system), challenges with community policing in marginalised areas e.g. Khayelitsha, as well as challenges with the criminal justice system in general.
