Informal Trading, Access to Livelihoods and Municipal By-Laws

Informal Trading, Access to Livelihoods and Municipal By-Laws (9:00 to 10:45; Friday, 25 July 2014)

This panel examines informal trade issues in the wake of Operation Clean Sweep in inner city Johannesburg, which saw informal traders approach the Constitutional Court on an urgent basis to be allowed to return to their trading sites. The panel will touch on the vulnerability of informal traders despite the legal frameworks that are supposed to regulate and protect them, and look at the enforcement of other municipal by-laws.
